PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
SAP Research Centers in Zurich and St. Gallen support SAP's long-term strategy through technology research. Located to the campus of ETH Zurich and University of St. Gallen (HSG), the SAP Research Center in Zurich focuses on application-oriented research in the areas of Internet of Things, Smart Items, as well as Electric Mobility applied to Enterprise Service Architectures. This combines SAP's technological know-how with the expertise of ETH Zurich and the leading business school of St. Gallen.

The objective of the EU-funded research project "ELVIRE" is to develop an on-board electric energy communication & service platform for realistic use-cases around Electric Mobility including the relevant external communication and services. The ELVIRE consortium consists of 12 partners including influential vehicle manufacturers, automotive suppliers, electricity providers, e-service providers, ERP software companies and the research community. Given the fact that ELVIRE is placed at the forefront of the ICT electric vehicle development, the respective flexibility for adopting the defined, developed and tested solutions in practice is a major contribution to the E-Mobility industry.

SAP's contributions to the ELVIRE project include:
* Evaluation of the business model of the defined ICT E-Mobility use cases
* Requirements engineering
* Support during design, implementation and testing of defined ICT on-board services
* Design and implementation of the ELVIRE roaming architecture and value-added services platform
* Integration of ICT on-board services with an external service platform and SAP solutions

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS
As a PhD student (f/m), you will work on the ELVIRE project.

We offer a great and team oriented working environment, the possibility to extend your practical experience and theoretical knowledge within a highly international team. Guided by a mentor, the student will be supported throughout but also encouraged to work on his/her own initiative, to develop new ideas. The responsibilities of the student include:
* Successful completion of a PhD in the area of Computer Science.
* Continuous application of your research to the ELVIRE project, especially in the area of new mobility services, and roaming concepts for electric vehicles, as well as carrying out related tasks for the project, ensuring the successful completion of the project.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
* University degree (Diploma or Masters) Studies in the field of Computer Science, Communications Engineering, or a related field with very good results
* Interest in pursuing a PhD degree in a combined industrial and scientific setting
* Methodical and practical knowledge in at least three of the following areas:
- Advanced Java SE, Java EE (mandatory)
- Web services (SOAP, XML, XSD, WS-RM, REST) (very beneficial / willing to learn)
- Mobile application development (beneficial / willing to learn)
- Roaming architectures (such as GSM) (beneficial / willing to learn)
- Business process modeling (BPMN, BPEL) (beneficial / willing to learn)
- SAP applications (ERP, preferable Automotive Industry or Utilities solution)
- Knowledge about the automotive industry
* Knowledge in Empirical Research preferred
* Ability to think strategically, innovative, but also practical
* Flexibility and strong team working skills
* Ability to work on your own initiative
* Good in visualizing results
* Very good writing skills
* Good organizational skills
* Good English language skills - written and spoken
* Good German skills, written and spoken, are a plus, but not required
