PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
As a member of the TIP HPI Strategic projects team the candidate's mission will be to actively support research projects at the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) as well as SAP innovation projects. Our objective is to develop the next generation of enterprise applications. As part of this task it is important for us to check application prototypes against data collected from real customer scenarios and run tests on experimental hardware. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate to administer the system landscape which serves as a backbone for these tests and experiments. The successful candidate will be working with the latest SAP technology on cutting edge projects that will help shape the future of SAP.

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS
* Provide day to day IT support for the distributed R&D team
* Work with the R&D team to develop system management Proofs of Concept
* Support and develop the IT infrastructure in conjunction with the needs of research projects
* Support the provisioning of IT services within an experimental cloud/dynamic infrastructure
* Act as the main contact between the team and SAP IT and SAP Hosting
* Ability to work in a distributed team that requires frequent travel between Walldorf and Potsdam
* Ability to work closely with PhD students at the HPI
* Hands-On mentality
* Candidates are expected to bring enthusiasm and a willingness to learn to the job

WORK EXPERIENCE
* Work experience in an SAP environment is beneficial

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
* In depth knowledge of Linux and UNIX OSs, basic knowledge of MS Windows Server
* Advanced knowledge of configuration of storage systems, e.g. hard disks, filer systems, LVMs
* Basic knowledge of virtualization tools like VMWare ESX and XEN
* Basic understanding of network administration and configuration
* Programming and development skills are a plus.
* Communication skills in English and German
